Leave No Stone Unturned: Utilise Stone With Style for Your Interiors

20/01/2017 09:43:13

Utilising stones dates back to the Stone Age. Only difference is, back then stone was used as tools but today we have discovered varieties of stones and we use it in our daily lives, especially in our indoor and outdoor living spaces to build, beautify and enhance the style statement around us.

Looking to use stone in your interior projects? Then you must know what’s out there and where you can use it!

Natural Stones
These stones are a result of Mother Nature and the process of heat, pressure and minerals. These stones range from limestone, marble, granite, slate, sandstone, soapstone, etc., and are used extensively to create luxury furniture.

USES: Due to its timeless elegance and durability natural stones can be used as bathroom surfaces, indoor and outdoor flooring, centre tables, side tables, centre tables, garden tables, ceiling tiles or even sculptures.

Precious & Semi Precious Stones

Gemstones are pieces of mineral crystals or rare rocks, used in their natural form are cut and polished to suit the requirement of interior products to create luxury surfaces, unique sculptures and more. These stones range from agate, amethyst, lapis lazuli, quartz, ammonite, aquamarine, bloodstone, etc.

USES: The extreme natural beauty and rarity of the precious and semi-precious stones adds to the charm when used in any type of interiors. Most common uses for these stones are sculptures, table lamps, door handle/knobs, extracts of the same are often seen used on table tops, furniture carvings and so on.

Man-made Stones
As opposed to natural stones, gemstones and rocks, man-made stones are the products of synthetic creation of the same chemical composition in laboratories. Though these stones don’t have natural history their primary advantage is affordability and colour uniformity. Cubic Zirconia, Swarovski, Synthetic Ruby, etc. are a few examples.

USES: These manmade gems have their own charm due to the flexibility they give in terms of colours, textures & usability. On one hand where swarovski crystals are used extensively to make jewellery it is also favoured to create some stunning home decor and sculptures. As the same time crystals and modified stones are used to create lighting, embellishment on table tops, doors and more.
