The very latest materials for surface innovation will be the subject of the “Future Thinking” feature at the Surface Design Show 2012 held in the Business Design Centre, London from 7-9 February 2012.
The feature will highlight not only the latest materials in production, but also those still in the development stage and will be curated by SCIN, the UK sourcing and advisory company for materials.
The range of products on display will explore: life cycle, process, reinterpretation and development. Materials will be accepted from architects, designers and interior designers as well as from the young and gifted currently developing their skills.
Another strong area of development will be the hybrid materials and the new generation of composites. Sustainability is expected to be heavily represented.

Commenting on Surface Innovation SCIN Founder Annabelle Filer said “Behind every thought and innovation is a person with a question.
This year we have tried to find materials and their 'owners' which are the product of some interesting questions, such as: ‘Can I find a pattern to add to an existing material that considerably alters the inherent properties of the materials?’ ‘Why can’t we find a way of creating corrugated veneer that can bond well to a substructure?’ ‘Can we find the ideal material that allows us to innovate product but responds to our desire to throw chattel away?’”
