Kava Surfaces

Stand: 273

KAVA Surfaces reimagines surface materials through a circular and ecological approach, turning used coffee grounds and organic waste into striking, sustainable interior surfaces. Handmade in the UK from a blend of repurposed coffee by-products and natural fibres, KAVA is a plastic-free composite that combines environmental responsibility with visual warmth and tactile richness.

KAVA’s surfaces can be applied to sustainable substrates such as plywood or chipboard, and are suitable for a wide range of interior applications — from kitchen worktops, splash-backs, and breakfast bars to doors, furniture, wall panels and decorative installations in both domestic and commercial settings.

The material is available in a variety of natural colours and textures, achieved through the use of organic powders and by-products such as fruit stones, ground metals, charcoal dust, and natural pigments. Bespoke colour options are also available on request.

KAVA is designed to be long-lasting, hygienic and easy to maintain. Its organic composition means colour and texture may evolve over time — much like natural wood — contributing to its authentic, material-led character. At end of life, KAVA can be recycled locally under chipboard/timber categories or returned to the maker for reuse, supporting closed-loop circularity.

As part of the MTRL Library, KAVA invites designers and specifiers to engage directly with a surface that embodies waste reimagined and materials redesigned. Experiencing KAVA in person allows for a deeper understanding of its texture, colour depth, and natural character — qualities that are central to thoughtful material selection and sustainability-driven design.

KAVA offers a compelling option for projects that value ecological impact, authentic material presence, and circular design principles, making sustainability visible without compromising on aesthetic or functional performance.
