Sustainable Ply

Stand: 273
Sustainable Ply Ltd produces innovative, lightweight sheet materials made by re-using waste cardboard and recycled paper to create a circular alternative to traditional plywood and MDF. By upcycling high-volume waste streams into a high-strength core panel, Sustainable Ply significantly reduces carbon footprint and resource demand compared with conventional sheet materials.

The panels are lightweight yet strong, offering up to 30–40 % lower weight than standard plywood and MDF at equivalent thicknesses, while delivering excellent thermal performance and stability. Sustainable Ply sheets readily accept finishes such as paint or stain and are suitable for a wide range of interior applications including wall panelling, cladding, furniture, interior joinery and decorative elements.

Sustainability is central to the brand’s mission. The materials are manufactured locally in the UK using a low-energy, low-waste process, and are non-toxic and formaldehyde-free, contributing to safer indoor environments and responsible material use. By giving waste cardboard a second life in durable panels, Sustainable Ply helps reduce demand for virgin timber and support circular design thinking.

Included in the MTRL Library, Sustainable Ply offers designers and specifiers the chance to experience this circular material in person — appreciating its lightweight feel, surface versatility and sustainability story. Its presence supports early-stage material exploration and encourages thoughtful specification of low-impact, high-performance sheet materials.
