

Ashley Lane
Ashley Lane completed his honours degree in architecture in 1994 at Curtin University, Perth, specialising in urban design and complementing this with a degree in philosophy. In 1995 he moved to Melbourne and worked with Bates Smart, Australia’s oldest firm on several urban projects, including the construction of Melbourne’s new Children’s Court, which was completed in 1997.
In 1997 he joined Lab Architecture Studio on the Federation Square, the most awarded project in the history of the Australian Institute of Architects. During this time he also lectured in architecture at Curtin University and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. In 2003 he relocated to London.
Ashley joined Foster + Partners in 2004, and has since worked on a diverse range of projects. In 2007 he was the Associate Partner on the Bishopsgate Goods Yard project, a 10-hectare site on a disused east London goods yard. The scheme incorporates offices, public space and a 220-metre-high residential building, built in part over railways, the project involved working closely with TFL and Network Rail to incorporate live railways into the site’s infrastructure.
Ashley has more recently been expatriated to the middle east concluding on site responsibility for the Central Market project in Abu Dhabi – a contemporary market place that is a modern interpretation of the traditional souk and also included a 180m high office tower and 281m high Residential tower. On his return to London Ashley recent projects include the 420,000m2 mixed use development the Bund Financial Centre in collaboration with Heatherwick Studio, a project seen as an extension of the traditional ‘Bund’ the scheme is a 420,000m2 mixed use development consisting of 8 buildings including two 180m Landmark towers around a landscaped plaza containing a cultural centre.
Ashley is currently working on various projects in KSA, Dubai, Thailand and India. Ashley is a registered architect in the UK as well as being registered in Victoria, ACT, WA and NSW. He is also a WELL and LEED AP.
