For more than two decades, Sacco Carpet has been shaping some of the world’s most refined interiors with its distinctive blend of artistry, craftsmanship and technical expertise. In this month’s interview, we sit down with the team to explore how their hand‑drawn design process, material innovation and close collaboration with designers continue to set them apart in the luxury residential and hospitality sectors. From bespoke commissions to large‑scale projects, Sacco shares insights into what it takes to create carpets that are as enduring as they are expressive.

1. Your brand was founded on the principle of producing the highest quality carpets for leading designers and architects. How do you maintain that level of craftsmanship as demand continues to grow?

Maintaining the highest level of craftsmanship as demand grows has always been at the core of Sacco Carpet. With over 24 years of experience, we have built our reputation by working on high-end residential and commercial projects alongside some of the world’s leading interior designers.

A defining moment for us was when Adam Tihany approached us to collaborate on his first Michelin-starred French restaurant in New York, marking our first commercial project. This allowed us to expand our expertise while remaining true to our foundation. Until then, we had focused on luxurious materials such as silk, mohair, and hand-tufted designs created exclusively for private homes.

As we have grown, we have been careful to never compromise on quality. We continue to use only the finest materials and rely on our highly skilled art department, where every design is hand-sketched and thoughtfully translated onto each rug or carpet. By keeping a hands-on approach and treating every project as unique, we ensure that the same level of detail, care, and precision is maintained—allowing us to scale while preserving the craftsmanship and bespoke quality that define our brand.

2. You have worked on prestigious hospitality projects including The Mandarin Oriental and Restaurant Daniel. How does designing for hospitality spaces differ from residential projects?

Designing hospitality spaces versus residential projects is a very different experience, and it’s something we enjoy navigating.

Hospitality projects, such as The Mandarin Oriental and Restaurant Daniel, are typically on a much larger scale and require a more structured, strategic approach. We spend time developing cohesive design palettes that work across multiple areas, ensuring consistency throughout the space. These environments also demand highly durable, long-lasting materials that can withstand heavy footfall, while still delivering a sense of luxury. Even at this scale, we incorporate our bespoke, hand-designed artwork into every piece, so each carpet retains a unique identity and a strong level of craftsmanship.

In contrast, residential projects are far more personal and tailored to the individual client. We work closely with homeowners to bring their exact vision to life, no matter how creative or specific. Whether it’s designing a carpet inspired by the movement of the sea or creating a completely one-of-a-kind piece, the focus is on achieving a truly bespoke result.

Material choices also differ, as residential interiors typically allow for softer, more plush fibres due to lower foot traffic. Clients often prioritize comfort and texture underfoot, enabling us to create carpets that are not only visually striking but also exceptionally tactile and luxurious within the home.

3. From 100% silk hand-knotted rugs to New Zealand wool Axminster carpets, your portfolio spans a wide range of materials. How do you approach material selection to balance luxury, durability and cost-effectiveness?

Our approach to material selection always begins with understanding the specific needs of each project. Every design brief is different, so we begin by asking key questions to refine the client’s priorities-whether that’s durability, aesthetic, budget, or overall performance.

From there, we guide our clients towards the most suitable materials to achieve the right balance between luxury, longevity, and cost-effectiveness. For residential projects, we often recommend a blend of wool and silk, as it offers the perfect combination of softness, durability, and visual richness, creating a refined finish that will stand the test of time.

For hospitality or high-traffic environments, we lean towards more robust materials, such as high-quality wool or New Zealand wool Axminster constructions, which are designed to withstand heavy use while still maintaining a premium look and feel.

Ultimately, our role is to combine our knowledge of materials with the client’s vision, ensuring that every carpet not only looks exceptional but performs beautifully within its intended space.

4. With showrooms in New York and London and a growing global presence, how do you ensure a consistent level of service and client experience across different markets?

Ensuring a consistent level of service across all of our showrooms is extremely important to us. Whether in New York or London, we pride ourselves on having highly experienced consultants who deliver an exceptional standard of client care.

At Sacco, consistency really comes down to three things: clear processes, strong communication, and a shared culture. We’re working to standardize how we manage projects from start to finish so clients have the same experience regardless of location. At the same time, we stay closely connected across teams through regular communication and shared systems, including our CRM, so nothing falls through the cracks.

Most importantly, we’re aligned on what the “Sacco experience” means—high-touch service, deep expertise in custom work, and true partnership with our clients. While each market has its own personality, that level of care and quality remains consistent. From the initial design consultation through to the final delivery and installation, we ensure each stage is carefully managed and aligned with our core values.
