Izzy Kelly
Izzy Kelly, a London based furniture designer, is the creator of Fallen Furniture, an initiative which utilises local felled and fallen timber, by turning it into unique, one-off, handcrafted furniture. Fallen Furniture was born after Izzy was shocked to uncover that the UK is the third biggest importer of timber on the planet, yet is also one of the most nature-depleting countries, with London councils alone chopping down over 5,000 trees a year. Izzy collaborates with tree surgeons, local councils and biodiversity experts in order to collect ‘waste’ timber from within a two-mile radius of her studio - making sure she is eliminating any carbon emissions by collecting all logs by foot. Concerned by the lack of transparency and provenance within the timber supply chain, when collecting her timber Izzy documents the exact location of where the tree grew, by using the app What3Words, which she later engraves onto her furniture, allowing her to translate this story to the consumer.
